You can’t tell the story of New York without talking about Harlem, a neighborhood that’s been synonymous with Black culture since the Harlem Renaissance in the early 20th century, when music, literature, fashion, dance, and other arts experienced a Harlem-centered revival that would have a massive and lasting impact on arts and culture. That Harlem remains a cultural bastion today is a testament to the communities that have been built to sustain these movements over the decades. The neighborhood is rich in history and culture and has an interesting and layered story to tell — if you seek it out.

If you get tired of walking around the district you can stop at a local bar or a cafe. There are plenty of them:
- Red Rooster Harlem takes the place of one of the most famous cafes in Harlem.
- Harlem Tavern is a takeaway cafe with an extensive menu for different tastes.
- Harlem Shake — many of those who were surfing the web in the early 2010s already have the music in their heads. But this is a pretty popular place that serves burgers and shakes in a modern interior.
It is possible to explore the town on foot, but the best way to get to the place is by transport. And here you have plenty of options.
Transportation
Harlem is one of those regions in New York with the biggest amount of transportation. Subway lines, bus stops, bike roads, taxis are always near you, no matter the apartment for rent you choose.

The area is located not too far from Harlem and considered to be much safer. But Hell’s Kitchen is also all about hustle and bustle. You won’t have much of a quiet life there.
